In cybersecurity, humans are always the weakest link. Scammers are masters of psychological manipulation (Social Engineering). Here are 5 emotions they often exploit.
1. Fear
Scenario: "Your account will be locked", "You are involved in money laundering", "Your child is in emergency".
When afraid, the brain switches to survival mode (Fight or Flight), logical thinking turns off. You will follow orders to escape fear.
2. Greed
Scenario: "Easy job high pay", "Win an iPhone", "30% interest investment".
Greed blinds. Scammers paint a picture of easy wealth, making victims ignore warning signs.
3. Urgency
Scenario: "Offer ends in 10 mins", "Coupon expiring", "Transfer now or too late".
Creating time pressure makes you unable to think carefully or ask for opinions.
4. Trust & Authority
Scenario: Impersonating Police, Bank Staff, CEO.
We are taught from young to obey authority figures. Scammers exploit this, using uniforms, badges (fake), and stern tones to give orders.
5. Curiosity
Scenario: Sending files like "Salary_Bonus_List.xlsx", "Hot_Photo.jpg", or a link with a sensational title.
Curiosity drives you to click, and malware gets downloaded.
