A fake banking website can look 99% identical to the real one. Just entering your username and password means your account is immediately compromised. Master these 5 verification tips.
Tip 1: Check the Domain (URL)
This is the most important check. Carefully examine the browser address bar:
- ✅
https://www.vietcombank.com.vn→ Legitimate - ❌
https://vietcombank-login.com→ Fake - ❌
https://www.vietcornbank.com.vn→ Fake ("m" replaced with "rn")
Tip 2: Check HTTPS Lock
Legitimate sites always show the 🔒 lock icon in the address bar. However, fake sites can also have HTTPS, so this is necessary but not sufficient.
Tip 3: Check Page Content
Fake sites often have: spelling errors, blurry images, only one page (the login page), other links all redirect to homepage or don't work.
Tip 4: Use Google Search
Instead of clicking links from messages/emails, type the organization's name on Google and access from the top search result.
Tip 5: Check with VTrust
Paste the suspicious URL into VTrust's "Scam Checker" tool. The system will analyze and alert if the website is blacklisted.
Remember
Golden rule: NEVER access banking/e-commerce websites from links in messages or emails. Always type the address yourself or use the official app.
