The FBI and international cybersecurity agencies (CISA, HHS) have issued a red alert about hacker groups targeting hospital systems.
The attack not only encrypts medical records but also paralyzes network-connected medical devices, forcing doctors to revert to paper and pen, causing delays in patient emergency care.
Why Hospitals?
Hospitals often have weaker security systems than banks, but data is extremely critical (human lives). Hackers believe hospitals will pay ransoms quickly to save patients.
Recommendations from FBI
- Perform regular offline data backups.
- Update security patches for all devices, including MRI, X-Ray machines.
- Train medical staff on recognizing phishing emails (main infection route).
